PK-Cover-flatAs I shared earlier, I have been blessed to make the acquaintance of Barnabas Piper (yes, he is the son of Theologian John Piper). Through a conversation on Twitter, we became friends, and he was gracious enough to share an e-copy of his forthcoming book The Pastor’s Kid with me. I don’t think it’s possible for me to overstate what a profound impact the book had upon me, and I am certain that it will impact the lives of PKs and MKs (Missionary’s Kids) and their spouses, pastors, and their parishioners for some time to come.

Yesterday, Barnabas was kind enough to share a quote from me about The Pastor’s Kid on his blog: CLICK HERE TO READ.

In the coming months, I’ll be interviewing Barnabas, as well as posting a review of the book here on the blog. Even if you are not a PK or MK, you will not want to miss this. I promise you that it will be both enlightening and informative.

As for The Pastor’s Kid, all I will say for now is that if you grew up in a home with one or both parents serving in the ministry, this book will open your eyes to the fact that you’re not alone. There are many like you and me who did not choose to be born to parents who devoted their lives to ministry. There are many like you and me who spend most of their lives desperately struggling to “keep up” to expectations that our parents and church members impose on us. Or perhaps you have simply given up. Maybe you are one who rejected the faith of your father, but have come back to the fold in recent years. You may still be far from God.

You are not alone.

On a personal note, Rebecca had several “Aha” moments while reading The Pastor’s Kid. She said it explained many things to her about my unusual family dynamic and our relationships with each other and people in general. My prayer is that The Pastor’s Kid will not only educate the Body of Christ, but also open meaningful dialogue, and bring restoration and peace to many PKs, MKs, and their families.

In Christ’s perfect love,

Dwight
