Dwight and I got to ring the bells for the Salvation Army tonight. I was so excited! I tried to volunteer many times through the years only to hear,”We have too many volunteers already.” So I would like to say a big thank you to Victory Church for finally giving me the opportunity to do something I’ve wanted to do for quite a long time . As you can tell by my picture, I was thrilled to be there!
Of course, as always seems to be the case when you commit to volunteer, my week was horrendously crazy. I was mentally and physically tired from work and a late night Christmas parade. My legs cramped up on me and my head hurt. But I would not trade that shift for the world because Dwight and I got to brave the crowds of equally tired and stressed out people just trying to get through their day, and we were able to smile, say God bless you and Merry Christmas, and thank them for their generosity. Making eye contact, smiling, and acknowledging them–sometimes that’s all it takes to make people’s day. We found strength where we did not know we had it, and, before we knew it, our shift was over. I wish I’d signed us up for a couple more!
During the holiday season, things can get crazy–believe me, I know! With three kids, a husband, and a full-time job, it can get hectic. We can always find a pretty good excuse not to get involved. But I encourage you to volunteer in some way this holiday season. I promise, you won’t regret it.
God bless,
Rebecca
